Formulas for calculating circles
A circle is a geometric figure defined by the set of all points on a plane, which are the same distance from the center of the circle. The most important properties of a circle are its radius, the diameter, the circumference and the circular area.
Radius
The radius is the distance from the center of the circle to a point on the circle line. It is generally abbreviated with the letter “r”. The formulas for calculating the radius are:
\(\displaystyle r = \sqrt{\frac{A}{π}}\)
where (d) is the diameter and (A) is the area.
Area
The area of the circle is the space that the circle occupies on the plane. The formula for calculating the area of a circle is:
\(\displaystyle A = r^2 · π\) \(\displaystyle = \frac{d^2 · π}{4}\)
Circumference
The circumference is the total length of the surrounding circular line. The formula for calculating the perimeter is:
\(\displaystyle c = d · π\)
Diameter
The diameter is the longest distance that traverses the circle and connects the center with two points on the circle line. The formulas for calculating the diameter are:
\(\displaystyle d = 2 · r\) \(\displaystyle = \sqrt{\frac{ 4 · A }{ π}}\)
